One Night Shot by yori1976 One Night Shot by yori1976
M-109A - self propelled canon.

Taken a few years ago during my reserve service. Wherever I went I had an Olympus XA in my pocket (35mm f-2.8 Zuicko lens, manual range-finder focusing, aperture control with shutter speed reading. made 1984).
The film I used was Fuji Neopan 400, developed in D-76.
Printed on Glossy paper, with the smoke and fireball burned in, to achieve some detail.
Full frame print on AGFA Brovira paper.
PS: brightness/contrast to match print.

Light and exposure:
The camera can wait 8" or until it receives enough light. I placed it on a stone and tripped the shutter. A full moon provided little fill light, and the shot itself the rest... Very lucky!

Entered in :icondskphotography:'s Night shot contest (won nothing...).

Entered in :iconcorres: B&W photography contest (deadline July 20th).

Entered in :iconsignmeupscotty:'s September speed contest (now voting)

Enjoy!

what does "with the smoke and fireball burned in" mean exactly?

When printing images, the more light that hits the printing paper, the darker the image. The fireball was so bright I had to expose it to much more light than the rest of the print when printing (real light, chemicals and a photosensitive paper - relics of a different era...). This action is called "Burning", and is echoed by the burn tool in Photoshop and other image editing programs.

Was this shot in live war, or was this one of your friends tanks?

Well, my friends don't have cannons (except for a few photographers LOL), but that was during practice - maneuvers with live fire.

That's a nice shot...

Sorry, bad pun... :P

Awesomely done photo. Using an old school camera can bring out sides of a photo digital can't...

Digital can do anything - it just lack the reality feel sometimes...
The pun is in the title - so no problem...

You know - there are things that I can't bring myself to do in PS, that I could get on film - but image manipulation really began when you chose a film in pre-digital times...
Anything affecting the final image is some type of manipulation!

"Look, I took a pic of a UFO..."

"No, that's a drop of bleach on the film..."

Then there's Vaseline on the lens, overexposing the film...

People have been doing it for ages, it's just a lot easier now...
